POEMS FROM AN IRISH PEACEKEEPER

Michael J. Whelan M.A. - historian, poet and author of 'The Battle of Jadotville: Irish Soldiers in Combat in the Congo, 1961'  and  'Allegiances Compromised: Faith, Honour and Allegiance - Ex British Soldiers in the Irish Army 1913-1924' and recent 'Joint Second' Place Winner in the 'Patrick Kavanagh International Poetry Award 2011' will read from his winning collection 'Against the Black Sky, We Listen: An Irish Peacekeepers Poems' inspired by his experiences while serving as a Peacekeeper in South Lebanon and Kosovo with the Irish Defence Forces at the Tallaght Library (South Dublin) with 'Hennessy Award’ winners Maria Wallace, Eileen Casey and also Gavan Duffy at the Tallaght Library Readings on 5th December at 7pm sharp!

Find out how Christmas was celebrated in the trenches during World War One with curator of military history, Lar Joye.

60th Anniversary of the Historic De Havilland Chipmunk

Next year 2012 sees the 60th Anniversary of the De Havilland Chipmunk in Irish Air Corps Service in January 1952, and also the 90th Anniversary of the establishment of the Irish Air Service / Irish Air Corps and the commencement of its long tradition of military aviation in Ireland. A historical and heritage event is proposed to mark the service of the DH Chipmunk, including presentations by notable speakers including Brigadier General Paul Fry, General Officer Commanding Irish Air Corps, will take place in the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin.
