It is hoped that this guide will assist anyone interested in Irish military history, be they those seeking information on a family member’s participation in an historical conflict or a specialist working on an academic study.

This guide attempts to promote the study of all Irish military participation, regardless of the location or the cause espoused. Part 1 will help the visitor in taking the first steps in researching military archives and information.

Almost every town in Ireland will also have a memorial to local people's service in conflict, whether in the First or Second World Wars, the War of Independence or Civil War or other conflicts.
