Saint Patrick’s Cathedral – 13 November 2022

President Michael D Higgins attended the annual Service of Remembrance commemorating Ireland’s war dead in the National Cathedral and Collegiate Church of St Patrick, Dublin on Sunday, 13 November.

During the service, President Higgins and Lieutenant-Colonel Ken Martin, President of the Royal British Legion Republic of Ireland District, laid wreaths at the War Memorial in the north transept, escorted by Mr Paul Stephenston, District Vice-Chairman Royal British Legion Republic of Ireland.

The service was led by the Dean, the Very Revd William Morton and sung by the Cathedral Choi. Lessons were read by H.E. Mrs Gerasko Larysa Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, and Mrs Joan Bruton B.E.M

The exhortation was led by Major Brian Duffy M.B.E Chairman Royal British Legion Republic of Ireland, and was followed by the Last Post, the Reveille and the Kohima Epitaph.

The sermon was preached by The Reverend D.W. Oxley, B.A., B.Th,, Prebendary of St Audoen’s.

Attendance included representatives of Irish Political Parties, the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, the United States of America and France, representatives of the Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána, Veteran Associations and Regimental Associations.

Mr Phillip Hamell represented The Military Heritage of Ireland Trust CLG.
