Commemoration Service: 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme

The 1st July 2026 marks the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, one of the defining battles of the Great War and a turning point in British history. Heralded as the ‘Big Push’, in one day alone more than 57,000 men became casualties, and in a battle that lasted 141 days it would become the graveyard of the Pals, of Kitchener’s Army.

The 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme is not merely a chronological commemoration. It marks the convergence of the extreme violence of 1916 and the region’s current commitment to peace. In the French collective memory, the Somme has often remained in the shadow of Verdun; yet, it represents a global meeting having mobilized three million men and twenty-five nationalities.
