Web Site Redesign

The Military Heritage of Ireland Trust’s Web Site was launched in 2000 and was further enhanced during 2004. A complete redesign of the Web Site commenced in November 2013, with the Trust’s Directors endorsing the concept, including a modified site map, during its February 2014 meeting. The construction process culminated with the launch of the revamped Web Site in September 2014.

With the installation of a WordPress Content Management System, the site’s functionality has improved. The enhancement of the site’s capabilities permit the editing, managing and storing of relevant information, and the tailoring of the Web Site for the Trust’s specific needs. The remodelled Web Site includes a user friendly search engine facility and maximises the usage of social media assets.

Through its Web Site and Contact information, the Trust actively assists families, researchers and students throughout Ireland and the world to access information on the military service of relatives, friends and individuals.

The 2014 redesigned site consists of nine sections. Significant modifications were made in the About Us and Research Sections. The Trust’s mission, objectives, vision and activities were incorporated in the About Section. Topics in the revised Research Section include: Introduction, Sources, Archives, Web Sites, Museums, Heritage Centres, Battle Sites, Military Museums, Libraries, Military Tours, Directories for Installations and a Bibliography. New Sections in the 2014 site include: Membership, Projects, News, Calendar of Events and Archives.

In February, 2014, the Trust has opened a twitter account, the tag is @militaryheritag

The Trust’s Directors are indebted to the Webmaster – Sgt Mick Burke, Defence Forces CIS Corps, for his professional involvement in redesigning the 2014 Web Site and for posting material on the reconstructed site. In addition, the advice and support provided by Lt Col S McNamara, Defence Forces CIS Corps is fully appreciated.
